He also starred in Stripes, a film that almost cost him his nose in an accident.
John’s other bog role came in 1984 after he landed a role in Night Court. He played the Assistant District Attorney and later changed after the film’s director learned of his sense of humor. The Night Court role earned him four consecutive Emmy Awards from 1985 to 1988. In 1989, the actor requested not to be considered for an Emmy Award.
Larroquette and Don Reo developed a show, The John Larroquette Show which revolved around the actor’s demons, particularly alcoholism. The show was received well and despite positive critics, it failed to attract a huge audience.
NBC wanted to do away with the show but they granted John and Reo a chance to retool it. It ended during its fourth season and six of the 84 episodes were not aired.
Personal Life
John was married to Elizabeth Ann Cookson, whom he met when he was working in the play, Enter Laughing. The couple exchanged vows on July 4, 1975, as that was the only day they were off from rehearsals.
The couple welcomed two sons Jonathan and Benjamin, and Cookson had a daughter from a previous relationship. The famous actor has talked of his battle with alcoholism, although he quit drinking on February 6, 1982.
