John Fogerty was born on May 28, 1945, in Berkeley, California. The future guitarist and singer grew up with four brothers in the El Cerrito region. During his early years, he attended a very strict Catholic school. He changed schools a few times until he finally met future CCR band members.

John, his older brother Tom alongside other friends formed the CCR. The band got a deal with Fantasy Records, but it did not rise to fame instantly. The group released seven singles but they were not commercially successful. It was around this time that John received a letter to join military service.

John’s career began after he was discharged from military service in 1968. At this time, the former band was named to CCR and John took his brother’s place as the lead singer. The band released its eponymous debut album and Susie Q which became a hit.

The band followed with other successful albums and singles, putting the band among the best ones in the country. Despite the band being successful, the members had internal rifts which led to the disbandment of the band.

The band disbanded in 1972, shortly after their album Mardi Gras was released. John embarked on a solo career and between 1972 to 1985, he branded himself as The Blue Ridge Rangers, a band that he was the only member of.
