Danny Elfman was born on May 29, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. Danny’s mother was a teacher and writer, while his father was a teacher and Air Force veteran. During his youth years, Danny would spend some time at the local cinema in Baldwin and he loved it.

It was during these early years that Danny was introduced to great composers like Franz Waxman and Benard Hermann. He graduated from school early so that he could travel with his brother Richard around the world to perform.

Career

Elfman’s singing career began with the band Oingo Boingo. The band would perform in nightclubs on the streets of Los Angeles, until the late 70s, when Elfman’s brother Richard left to pursue a career in filmmaking.

Richard made Forbidden Zone, a film about the group’s stage performances, and Danny composed the movie’s songs and the score. Danny took over the Oingo Boingo band after his brother left and the band began achieving success.

The band released eight studio albums between 1981 to 1994. While singing with the band, Elfman composed scores and songs for various films. Throughout the 90s, Elfman scored 25 films including for Sleepy Hollow.

In the 2000s, the composer received a Grammy award nomination for the score Planet of the Apes, Spider-Man, and Big Fish.

Personal Life

Danny dated Kim Gordon in his early years. He later met Geri Eisenmenger, whom he married and had two daughters with. His first daughter Lola was born in 1979, while Mali was born in 1984. Elfman and Geri divorce later, enabling the composer to marry Bridget Fonda.

Danny and Fonda walked down the aisle on November 29, 2003, and they welcomed their son Oliver on January 21, 2005. During his years in the Oingo Boingo band, his hearing was damaged, which was one of the reasons he departed from the band.
