Colin Cowherd is a sports host on the radio with a net worth of $25 million. He is well known for hosting sports shows on television. He hosted Fox Sports on TV and radio which has a large viewership. He is also known for his blunt opinions in the sporting world.

What Does His Sports Career Entail?

Cowherd started his career acting as a play-by-play voice in the San Diego Padres. He was the sports director of KVBC TV station in Las Vegas. He moved to Portland to work as a sports anchor for KGW-TV and WTVT in Florida. As his ‘The Herd’ show gained more popularity, he decided to move the show to radio KFXX. He was named five times as Nevada’s Sportscaster of the Year.

In 2003, Cowherd began to host ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’ on ESPN radio. He hosted from 2003 to 2015. On ESPN2, he hosted ‘Sports Nation’ from 2009 to 2012. In 2013, ESPN contracted him to host ‘Colin’s New Football Show’.

Cowherd is also well known for his controversial statements which have always gotten him in trouble, in 2014 he received a backlash after making remarks on the death of The Ultimate Warrior and the circumstances around the death of Sean Taylor in 2007. He attended an episode of WWE SmackDown after referring to wrestling fans as ‘lonely pathetic booger eaters’.

In July 2015, Cowherd made remarks referring to Dominican Republicans being unable to understand complex sports this led to the Major League Baseball Players Association threatening to cut ties with ESPN and Fox. The damage was so bad ESPN had to fire Cowherd immediately.

Colin joined Fox Sports in 2015 and started hosting Fox’s radio and TV shows on a four-year deal. He hosted The Herd on Fox Sports and radio and contributed to Fox NFL Kickoff and ‘Speak for Yourself’. He partnered with iHeartRadio and Red Seat Ventures launching The Herd Podcast in 2018 and in 2121 he launched The Volume sports talk podcast.

Cowherd was paid $2 million per year while working at ESPN. His contract with Fox Sports was worth $6 million per year from 2015 and in 2018 he extended his contract and still received $6 million per year. He had an ownership stake and received a percentage of his show’s net revenue.

Cowherd has published several successful books.

Cowherd and his wife Ann sold their home in Manhattan Beach, California for $6.9 million. The family also owns a ski vacation property in Park City, Utah. They made a $4 million profit in their 6,700 square foot mansion in LA Brentwood which they bought at $6.9 million and sold at $11.5 million.

Personal Life

Colin Murray Cowherd was born on January 6th, 1964 in Aberdeen, Washington. His mother was a homemaker and his dad was an optometrist although he was struggling with alcoholism which contributed to their divorce. He was always a quiet kid and loved to listen to baseball on the radio. After graduating from Ocosta High School in Westport, he joined Eastern Washington University. He was roommates with football coach Jim McElwain.

Cowherd married his wife Ann in 2010 and they have four children, two from his previous marriage.
